SeaPack System: easy operation - fast packing
We are launching a new onboard packing system – SeaPack – specifically developed for Danish fishing trawlers to enable efficient weighing, packing, labeling, and registration of fish on board
ScanPlant NG SeaPack is a new, dedicated onboard packing system designed for the rapid weighing, packing, labeling, and registration of fish directly on the vessel, as well as for easy reporting to fisheries authorities. SeaPack manages all relevant data for voyage planning, catch information, price management, label design, and reporting to the electronic logbook (e-log).
What makes SeaPack particularly compelling is its larger terminal screen, oversized buttons, and greater flexibility in configuring packing programs with customized fish species based on season and catch area. It also allows the fish species buttons to be arranged in the most relevant order. The large buttons are easier to press when wearing wet rubber gloves, making it quick and efficient to register fish sizes during the packing process.
More options for fishermen
With the introduction of the SeaPack system in Denmark, Danish fishermen now have more choices—until now, there has only been one supplier of onboard packing systems. SeaPack can be integrated with existing marine scales or delivered as a complete solution including software, new marine scales, and printers.
The system has been developed with expert input from skipper Claus Pedersen of HM227 Myggenes.
Customized screen layouts enable fast packing
Catch packing is done quickly—with minimal screen interaction. In the SeaPack system, the packing program’s screen layout can be customized for specific seasons and/or catch areas. Only the relevant fish species for that particular season and area will be displayed.
The order of the fish species buttons can also be tailored, placing the button for the primary species at the top of the first page, followed by buttons for other species. This allows the operator to quickly register different fish sizes during packing.
Managing partial boxes
The SeaPack system also keeps track of partial (or “slant”) boxes and ensures they get completed. If the catch from a haul isn’t enough to fill a box, SeaPack will register it as a partial box. When the operator begins packing the next haul—for example, plaice size 3—SeaPack will notify them about the partial box, ensuring it gets completed as quickly as possible.
Real-time earnings overview—at sea
SeaPack provides a complete earnings overview—even while still at sea. Based on the day’s catch and current prices, the skipper can generate a report showing the total catch so far and an estimated value of the current haul.
Full overview, fast packing, and significant time savings
SeaPack makes it easy to register and manage all relevant data for voyage planning, catch details, price management, and e-log reporting. The system is user-friendly and designed for speed, with features like automatic field completion and individually customized screen layouts.
Simple voyage planning
In the Production Control Module, the catch voyage is created with all relevant data, such as port, haul name, date, economic zone, catch area, ICES quadrant, position, and gear type. The fields are guided step-by-step and can be filled in quickly—either automatically via GPS data or selected from drop-down menus. This reduces manual input and saves working time.
Easy reporting to e-log
The system integrates with the Danish Fisheries Agency's e-log registration system, automatically exporting the necessary information. Fields are populated directly from SeaPack data, eliminating the need for manual entry—saving a great deal of time and effort
